Talmud Torah of Minneapolis

1895:  Began as a one-room school attached to Kennesset Israel Synagogue.

1910:  Acquired a building at 818 Bassett Place and came under Jewish communal sponsorship. This building was later sold (apparently) to Phyllis Wheatley Settlement House.

1915:  New building erected at 8th Ave. and Fremont Ave. North. Besides classes on Hebrew and Jewish history, customs, and traditions, the building housed Americanization classes, and offered other social services like a health dispensary, plus a gym, a swimming pool, and clubrooms. The Newsboys’ Club [see full entry] used to meet in one of these rooms.

1924:  Social services turned over to Emanuel Cohen Center [see full entry] and it became solely a Hebrew School.

19??:  Moved to 16th & Queen Ave. N.  [the 1960s?]
