Portland Avenue Church of Christ, Minneapolis – Downtown

This Christian Church, Disciples of Christ was established on February 4, 1877, in the home of Mr. and Mrs. A. T. Ankeny on 5th Street near Hennepin Avenue (later the site of the General Electric building). Later in the month, the congregation began to rent the Swedenborgian Church at 5th Avenue South and 9th Street, for $100 per year.  The congregation worshiped in several locations, including the Mission Meeting Place, at 26th Avenue between Aldrich and Bryant Avenues South, for several years. It completed a new church in 1893-94 at Grant and Portland Avenues, dedicating the building on February 10, 1895.
