Norwegian Evangelical Lutheran Church

Known since 1918 as Christ Lutheran Church on Capitol Hill, the congregation dates back to 1868. Initially, services were held in homes and at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church. From 1872 to 1882, the congregation met at different locations until the land was purchased at 105 W. University Avenue where the present church was constructed and dedicated in 1915. Designed by the architectural firm of Buechner and Orth, the twin-towered yellow brick church with white stone trim is in the Beaux-Arts style that borrows from Renaissance and Classical sources seen particularly in its façade where a pediment is supported by a pair of colossal Ionic columns.
