Northeast Methodist Evangelical Church/ First German Methodist Church

Founded in 1873, this is another of the early Protestant churches established by the city’s German immigrants who settled in Northeast Minneapolis.  A small church was erected at 10th Avenue and 2nd St. NE, where the congregation worshipped until it merged with Foss Methodist Episcopal Church, located at 18th and Fremont Ave. No.  (See the Near North Side).

Between 1875 and 1888, four Scandinavian congregations were established that all ended up erecting churches near Logan Park, a block bounded by 13th and 15th Avenues NE and Madison and Monroe Streets, NE.  All four buildings are extant, although only one continues to serve its original denomination.
