First German Baptist Church, Saint Paul

This congregation of German-speaking Baptist immigrants began meeting as a congregation in 1879 and established the First German Baptist Church on August 3, 1873.  They initially met in a hall over a store at 6th and Rosabel Streets, and occasionally met in the First English Baptist Church on Wacouta between 7th and 8th Streets.  In 1881 they erected a church at 13th and Canada Streets.  A decade later, they erected a new church at 600 Mendota Street, dedicating it on June 20, 1891. The congregation changed its name to Dayton's Bluff Baptist Church in 1941.  In 1969 the congregation moved to the suburb of Oakdale and changed its name to Redeemer Baptist Church.
