Central Avenue German Methodist Church

The Central Avenue German Methodist Church was founded in 1866, and the first board of trustees elected in 1867. The pastor for Central Avenue church also served Northeast Church from 1866 to 1875. That year, the congregation bought a house in which they worshipped and in which a parsonage was established. This was likely on the corner of 3rd Avenue and 5th Street. The house burned in 1871 and the group worshipped in a nearby schoolhouse briefly and then purchased the Universalist church and a parsonage at 4th Avenue and 5th Street, the latter of which was rented while home for the pastor was created by an addition to the church. In 1879 the congregation built a church but soon sold it, buying a lot at 18th Street and 13th Avenue, South, on which they built a brick church. The congregation dissolved in 1916.
