Riverview Baptist Church, Saint Paul

In 1873, German Baptist settlers in the Saint Paul area founded First German Baptist Church (later known as Dayton's Bluff Baptist Church) in downtown Saint Paul, with members residing on both the East and West sides of the Mississippi River. Given the incommodious nature of travel across the river, the “West Siders” in the congregation organized a Sunday School on their side, and in 1884, First German Baptist purchased a lot at George and Stryker, on the West Side, and erected on it a small, wood framed mission chapel. Three years later, on March 14, 1887, twenty-five West Side members incorporated the new Riverview Baptist Church.  The congregation soon fostered the formation of another mission in South Saint Paul. To accommodate growth, the Riverview Baptist congregation erected a personage next to the church in 1904, and in 1910, they built a new church at the same location.  In 1961 the congregation moved to a new church at Moreland Ave. East, and Gorman Ave., where they remain.
